When I log into my Local System Management installation and navigate through the available screens, why are some buttons and checkboxes that are grayed out?

These features are only available when managing this system through a Central Manager.

What features do I get with the Local System Management software?

You get full hardware and software resource health monitoring, and email alerting on the discovered physical and logical sensors. You can browse to any of your systems individually and view the Hardware / Software / Network / Storage / Performance and Asset details.

What if I want to shut off the web browser access?

SyAM's web server and management agent are distinct services. You may disable the web server without affecting the agent's ability to continue health monitoring and alerting. In Windows use the Service Manager to set the Web Server service to disabled or manual start. In linux you can accomplish the equivalent manually by removing /etc/init.d/smwd or changing its autostart settings.

Once so disabled, to manage the system again you must either renable the web server, or add this system to a Central Manager's Management Tree.

I logged in with my browser but there is no icon in the tree. It just looks like a blank page.

On some systems it may take a minute or two for the management agent service to fully discover its environment upon system boot up or initial installation. Wait a minute or two and refresh the page.
